We have come up with a plan for thingymas presents. Yes, yes, I know it’s only October, hear me out.
The problem is this: we have arranged our lives to be time rich and money poor. In addition to this we both love doing ‘crafts’ but can never seem to allow ourselves the time. This gets a tad easier as the nights draw in, but then it is only things we can do indoors by the fireside and by then we are tired. It”s our own fault, we just can’t justify the time to ourselves when there is always a pressing list of things that must be done – and it somehow feels indulgent to spend time making things just for the sake of it.
And as I have already said, with limited funds (and plenty to spend it on with a house that needs renovating..) it makes us wince over the sheer cost of celebrating that winter festival thingy. (see I haven’t actually mentioned IT by name so that’s ok )
So here is the plan we came up with: we have set ourselves a very small budget each, and himself and I will make presents for the other. A sort of competition to see who can make it go the furthest, and the emphasis being on time, thought and effort rather than throwing money at the the problem .
Obviously the onus is to make as much as possible for free. That is nigh on impossible of course, but we do have the advantage of being collectors and hoarders, reluctant always to throw something out that might be useful, and a house stuffed with unused craft materials and equipment too.
So, hopefully, I can do a big reveal once the present giving moment is done, or if it works out pants, we shall never mention it again…
