As usual, back at the end of summer, we bought some bales of hay to feed to the sheep in case of snow. Up until this week, it has seemed unnecessary – and it doesn’t keep – that is sheep wont eat old hay. You would think, if they were hungry enough, they would. But sheep don’t apply that sort of logic.. and would starve rather than eat the wrong sort of hay.
Anyway, this week, the snow came, and it is refusing to leave. It was only a light smattering, that thawed and froze again – bit hard on the flora and fauna that had decided spring was a month early, but that’s nature for you. Fickle. We are just that much higher, when I drove to nearby villages and towns, it is green again, but we still have the white stuff.
It wont be that many months (touch wood etc) until we have grass again, and with half of it covered, we gave them some hay – it will go to waste if we don’t use it. . Besides.. they know their rights. snow = extras. They tucked straight in. and once again I put ‘make hay rack’ on the to do list.
