So – back in October we made this life changing decision..the gist being himself changing jobs, working less hours, us having less money but more time and “being together” more. Trying to adjust the life work balance.
It’s been a long haul plan, mostly because he had to give 6 months notice , then a drawn out hand over period, when he was working more hours then before, doing both jobs at once.. unfortunately during the busy Spring/ early summer time . We did look at the idea of having a year off.. sort of meant to.. not lambing, no pigs this year.. but somehow we got lots of ducks and hatched lots of chicks and had to build the new duck run, and all the veg patches are full as always… and I’m doing a lot of running around taxi-ing my son – seems the whole planning on independence as part of home ed is working out, but not the transport part! Tired.. is how we both feel now. Perhaps we should not have tried to do all this at the same time as major job upheaval.
But it has ended… or started.. depending on how you look at it. Not sure when we shall notice the difference, as we have so much catching up to do – only got the last of the beans in last week, so much later than usual, and we have a barnlet to build, heating system to put in.. etc.. etc. But we are determined to spend a bit more time doing fun things as well as working hard on everything else, and we have lots of optimism it will work out well.
Himself’s colleagues at work were lovely and bought him some fruit trees, and these cup cakes, from nibble and scoff. I’m impressed as they are not only pretty, but there is a decent chocolate cup cake under the decorations. Clearly himself has been wittering on about our lives a good deal!
