Whilst I have been manically pushing beans into pots in the big seed sowing panic, himself has been working away on duck run phase 2, and spent a fair bit of today smacking up the concrete base to some previous building, so future ducks can enjoy mud and grass and .. well.. nature. We did look at the price of hiring a breaker, did the usual ‘how much?!’ and decided to do it by hand. Not so bad as it was clearly done pretty badly.. so between sledge hammer and crow bar, it’s all bashed up. Just need to cart it away now. And think of somewhere to put it.
I have finally sown my last bean!, and although there is lots of planting underway, and sowing and pricking out some other bits and pieces, that rush is over for now, until it all needs to go out. So I was able to join in the duck run building fun. The posts are in, the gate moved, duckhouse built and most of the fencing up.
The whole idea behind this is to move the ducks over to a bigger accomodation, and bigger pond too, as we shall set the boat-pond in the ground. And the current duck run (phase 1) will become another smaller chicken run. Well a chicken love nest, where we can keep a cockerel and just a sensible number of girls together and get good fertility on the resulting eggs.
It’s all a bit of a rush as we have eggs in the incubator… when they hatch everyone will need to move round…
It will be duckanopolis when its finally done, though duck run phase 3 might have to wait a while..
