Clarissa, the other muscovy duck sitting on eggs has abandoned them. We did not realise in time to do anything about them.
Sadly, she waited until they were just about ready, and my guess is that she got a bit mixed up with the other ducklings being in that run
Although we had penned her, we kept the top of the pen open, as she could fly out and wash in the pond etc. She’s been doing this and returning to sit.. and then we realised she has been out since last night. And she is being an annoying aunt to the 3 week old ducklings. Shame.. perhaps she knew hers were ready then thought she saw them?
We really imagined they were so much bigger it would not be a problem.,. maybe it just her inexperience.
The ducklings are enjoying their freedom and charging about, and can easily outrun the annoying aunty who wants to corral them up. And each day I change the water in their apple-pond, and each day they ignore the clean water, and play with mad abandon in the muddy skanky water I just tipped out….
