The decorations were all taken down yesterday. Well to be fair we had started to take them down, just 12th night makes us rush around finding those we had forgotten. And today is.. apparantly, epiphany. So I made an epiphany cake. Thus ruining any ideas of eating less.
And, to properly kick off my 52 recipes in 2011 plans, I also had a go at making steak picado.
One of our local pubs has a Portuguese chef, and this is one of his dishes, one of my favourites.
I improvised a recipe, which came out just about the same:
Heat a large knob of butter in a pan and add 6 bay leaves. Cut two sirloin steaks into strips and fry this in the butter, then throw in a glass of red wine, and a couple of crushed garlic cloves and a couple of teaspoons of tomato purée, Cook a bit. Throw in some olives (green for me). Serve with chips or rice. Very quick, very easy.

Ooh, I love the sound of the Epiphany cake! Will try that.
Liking the steak picado, quick and easy.
