hurray for savoy cabbages! – first time we have grown them this year and they are so easy – once you get them past the butterfly time, and they stand well – the white cabbages were a fight to get them before they split – but the savoys stand. They will even take a fair bit of frost.. although this last week might have done them in – we shall see. I think the sheep are ever hopeful …
Savoy cabbage are timely too, with the making of our homemade bacon, we can have cabbage and bacon.
Doesn’t sound that great does it.. but its lovely.
Fry sliced up bacon (preferably home made), until crispy, then throw in a whole shredded savoy cabbage and stir fry in the bacon juices. Can be served with meat or on its own.
I like cabbage, steamed, with gravy with sunday roast, or garlic cabbage, but who knew cabbage could be so great, with bacon.
