hound tor

Hot day. Lovely. and enough of just work work work. So I made some scotch eggs, packed a picnic and met himself on the way home at Hound Tor.  I love this part of Dartmoor, mostly because so many of my childhood memories are here.. careering around with my cousins, we used to come in the VW bus that belonged to my  aunt and uncle. Us kids would be charging about climbing the tor and sliding through the gap in the rocks.  My parents and aunt and uncle would make tea in the VW, and they would send the dog with a note tied to it’s collar to tell us the picnic was ready.

As an adult I like the walks from Houndtor, and the medeval village ruins. But today, we just had the picnic. I brought the blankie and even some cushions, and my son and I lugged it to a nice looking spot with a good view by the tor, and waited for himself.  We  three lay in the sun, we read our books, we ate our food, and we scrambled about just enjoying the evening sun. Nice to have a few hours of rest and relaxation.
