another rainy day, so, after a late and pleasant start, drinking coffee with family etc, we declared it an indoor sort of day, and did a little DIY necessary to accomodate our new freezer.
Yes, we have saved enough to buy the new one, moved everything around as this bigger freezer uses about a third of the electricity of the one we inherited, which is now turned off, and this should be the final step in the big freezer plan.
We now have an embarrassing four and half freezers (half as one is the fridge freezer) – which really should be ample. We were celebrating the joy of having freezer space.. when it dawned, that if everything goes well, we should have two pigs, three lambs and several cockerels to put in there…and no.. we don’t have enough space…
I guess we shall have to eat some space.
And we are just wondering if we should move the fridge freezer and get a bigger fridge… We have a lot of jars of jam and pickles stored in there.. where they keep better, and it was a squeeze with the elderflower champagne (now sadly all gone), and when the rains came, and didn’t stop coming, we picked all the larger cabbages. The cannonball type of white cabbage tend to split in the rain, as we found out last year, and they keep so well if wrapped in the fridge., we have a whole shelf full, even with our frequent indulgences in garlic cabbage with our meals. And now the courgettes are arriving. Oh yes, a bigger fridge would be a nice luxury, and a spare fridge (in the form of the fridge freezer moved) would be nice.. but no.. not yet.. not until we have paid for all the other things we want/need. Maybe.
So, anyway, having finalised the big freezer plan (for now), we decided to ‘give ourselves’ the rest of the day off. So I washed and dyed some fleece a lovely deep bluey purple.. part of yet another project. Then we went out to just pick what needs to be picked. It rained.. we got soaked, and came back with peas for tea, tomatoes, courgettes, and a big trug-ful of french beans, which were blanched and put in the freezer. Forgot about that…freezing veg too… perhaps we don’t have enough freezer space after all….
