So far, despite having five live catch traps set, we have failed to catch any rats. Ebby (the cat), on the other hand (paw), has a score of 7 so far, including a really big one. So that’s great. and not so great as it indicates we have a big rat problem, and also rats fight back.. I wish he wouldn’t take them on, but its natural for him so we have to let him do what he does.
We have put some of the eradibait stuff out too, and it looks likes some might have been taken. Hope so. Also we did notice that Ebby was hanging round a particular area a lot, where there is a storm drain cover, with a large gap around it. Then himself saw a rat there, and then finally we realised it was not a storm drain, but the sewage… not ideal at all, to have a nice rat doorway from the village sewage system onto our land… So today himself has been cementing around the gap. Hope that helps.
Meanwhile the hen that was broody, and had her eggs stolen, has now come back into lay, which is great news, as she is the best layer of the lot, and we have increased chances of getting some eggs, and we are actuarlly getting some again, which is good, as the egg skelter was looking a tad empty.
We had one egg yesterday – but none today. Hopefully we’ll get more soon – especially as we bought 2 new hens at the market yesterday.
hmm yeh – we decided we just need more hens. would be nice if some of our chicks turned out to be girls…
Another egg today – big smile – hopefully we might even get two tomorrow.
yay. its always a treat to collect the eggs. well I think so
Yep – the boys fight over who should collect them!
I just found a clutch of 3 eggs laid by our star layer (Mrs Crossbeak) in the flower bed!
yay! – we are getting one or two eggs a day now, and given that the two copper headed marans have always been useless, maybe our egg crisis is over.
