More fun at the hobbies, crafting weekend. We (himself and I) used the peg loom for the first time. We have been dyeing fleece for many months now, and this is what it looks like peg loomed. We need to dye yet more before it’s the right size.
I did not intend it to have so much pink.. this is a function of getting to grips with the dyeing technique - turns out if you don’t make the red very red.. it’s pink.. who’d have thought… we like it anyway.
Himself spun some merino he bought at coldharbour mill… and then carded and spun the very first of our own fleece. We have been learning on gifted fleeces.. and great it’s been too - in fact the warp used on the peg loom was from the browny fleece we were given. So time to turn our hands at our own fleece.. especially as we have even more to process now.
The fibres are fairly long, and Himself (he’s the spinner in the family.. I knit…) says its a doddle to spin. Feels quite nice too, not scratchy, and we are going to have some fun experimenting with natural dyes, space dyeing etc. In fact it’s going to be along time before we get bored!
Really nice idea, this weekend, a nice social event, and nice to give ourselves ‘me-time’. Other people played piano, painted and drew, gardened, threw pots and modeled with clay, did some wood turning, make jewellery, read papers, jigsawed, soldered, built an incubator, cooked, cross-stitched, photo-edited, and recorded a few of us playing music. There wasn’t that many of us, just a lot of things got tried! so many thanks to the hosts.
I did a load of knitting too, and along with the peglooming, my hands really ache, but it’s well worth it.
Oooh, that’s lovely.
I think the pink is very pretty.
That looks lovely, I’ve been use a pegloom with the kids at my new job, some of them love it. So far it’s just been made out of un-spun natural white and black wool and some dyed using onion skins.
I think it looks lovely and would like to have a go, i dont think fleeces would be a problem as I live in West Wales and farmers get next to nothing for their fleece. I need to source a peg loom
thanks all
yeh Big-H - sadly wool sells for so little, so you can pick them up fairly cheap. You can buy peg looms, or you can do as we did and make your own
