ok enough rain already… The longest day of the year, and it pretty much rained all of it. We undertook ‘belligerent gardening’, as we call it.. which is gardening in the pouring rain. Dug out last year’s beet spinach which has bolted, and planted more PSB.
We did drink elderflower champagne at lunch time though, so we have drank it on the longest and shortest days… seems nice.
Thought about seeing the sun set tonight.. but were invited to a party. Didn’t miss the sunset! One of those parties when you don’t know lots of people, and they ask what you do… so you end up saying you home educate, and then having to deal with the usual questions.. tonight I had ‘what makes you feel you are qualified’, ‘do you have to get permission to do this?’ and the old gem ‘what about the social side’.. I keep answering. It’s all educating.. educating them to understand home ed is an option and does work!
Oh the questions, my middle sister got asked the other day if she had an NI number or birth cert if she’d never been to school, neither things have anything to do with going to school!
that’s quite funny!
I know all about those home-educating questions. I used to find some people would look at me as if I were mad for even considering taking my daughter out of school where there were proper qualified teachers and other kids to socialise with, believing that anything else just couldn’t possibly be good enough. But they were wrong… my daughter’s just finishing a 3 year photography course at college and has grown into a socialable, independent young lady who’s about to go off into the world and make her mark. I shall miss her when she’s gone but I’m proud of what we’ve achieved together because home-educating certainly taught me a thing or two, too
