sunshine again yay! (see how fickle I can be? well the ground is soaked and the water butts are full). Had a nice pottering sort of day.
- Starting with a lie in – the joys of these long summer days, there is still enough daylight – in fact it’s light until 10pm..
- had a coffee, chat and tour of the vegetable patches with my parents.. its nice to share and compare with others doing the same thing
- spotted a Jersey Tiger moth.. well two.. think they were doing something rude..
- planted the third row of peas, all sown in modules, and have a fourth lot coming (can never have too many peas)
- picked lots of mange tout.. enough for tea and to freeze some.,
- picked wild strawberries,
- picked elderflowers – for yet another batch of elderflower champagne, and another lot of elderflower wine. We have not picked for a few days, as they really are at their best when picked on a sunny day, and it is noticeable that they are beginning to fade
- indulged in tying up and tending the greenhouse tomatoes – With gardeners delight, I leave the side shoots, and let it grow as a ‘bush’ – always have, and always had lots of tomatoes. Feeling a little concerned as there is far more plant than flowers this year – which is supposed to be a sign of too rich a compost – but again. I never feed tomatoes.. but put in fresh compost… so.. dunno.. maybe I am just looking for trouble.. just as I am constantly looking for signs of blight – after last year andsome at last night’s party telling me they had blight on their allotment here in the village. I’m being good and doing the proper side shoot removing thing on the other toms, which are sweet olive (which is laden with green tomatoes) and fantasio
- dug some more spuds.. always enjoy digging potatoes
- had a nice roast, with our own spuds and own mange tout!
- more pottering in the garden until late
Yes, a good pottering day.
