Although a great and exciting time of year, this is also a time of hard work and stress. After the disappointing events of losing two of our first lambs recently, the time consumed that has to be found and replaced, the potato planting, seed sowing, house repairing, new veg patch digging, fencing and making,  which have to be fitted in when there is daylight and acceptable weather.. the ewe watching and grazing management…

oh don’t get me wrong. we love all of this, we love all the preparation and the growing.. the taking care of the animals. It’s just that it has to be fitted in with other parts of reality. Like our jobs, and home education.

My little job, which is normally so flexible suddenly blossoms into a massive hanging gloom known as…the payroll year end  .. ah joy.

To counteract the tiredness and hassle.. we indulge in ‘lamb therapy’.  Maybe I shall have to write a book, open clinics and promote this new therapy?  perhaps not.. as  in its simplest form, it’s us, watching the lamb.

We moved Sharona and Rogan into the big field today, where the grazing is just right.. the grass green and lush, but not overly deep or long – sheep really do prefer shorter grazing. Hopefully Rogan is sturdy enough, as Sharona is intent on sleeping under the oak tree and ignoring the field shelter. The other girls, incidentally, are enraged that she should get the best pickings.  But I told them.. it could be theirs too.. all they have to do is pop out a lamb or two, put up with a little drench…

As for Sharona and Rogan,we sat on the turn of the hill and watched them. Sharona working her way munching and keeping an eye on her lad. I feel a little for him, as he really could do with some other hooligans to play with. He makes do with us… hurtles towards us, half run half spring, around where we sit, in a game of dare.. then legs it back to mum. Then repeat until worn out, then we all lie down in the sun the weather forecaster told us would not be here.
