three little chicks
4 April 2008 by colouritgreen
The buff leghorn, our broody hen, marched out of her nest today, giving up on the remaining eggs and concentrating on her three chicks.
Chicks, just like lambs, can waste a lot of time.. just in the watching.
This has to be easier than using an incubator, although having a hen prone to broodiness might turn out to be a nuisance eventually. But she does the showing how to eat.. pointing out the water… sheltering and warming under her wings. The cockerel is a maran, I’m told, but not sure what the mother was, the eggs were tinted. So not sure what these will turn into, or what sex. However, lets not get carried away and count our chickens before they are grown.
Things seem to be looking up and you sound less exhausted! And wasn’t the weather great yesterday…positively warm - perfect for lambs and chicks, all of which look a picture.
Is that a box of coloured mini easter eggs behind the hen? Or marbles in water?
less exhausted - but really more philosophical. I don’t think I am ever going to really harden up. I’m not sure how much I want to.
Certainly was warm - t shirt weather for last 2 days - got too much sun as usual..
no thats not easter eggs
marbles. The only ones I had were fancy handmade ones.. *sigh* spect they will survive and be cleaned up…..
