PSB,cheese and bacon quiche

Managed to squeeze a fair bit of outdoor work in today, before the bad weather arrived. Pulled lots of nettles. as we wont spray them, and scything them only cuts them down, the only way to hope to remove them is to pull them up, by hand, roots and all. I know - don’t tell me, that nettles have a place in nature.. rest assured, there are plenty left, and lots of places where they will be left alone, but the fields were very neglected when we arrived here, and we have to try and get grass back.
We moved the sheep.. which made them happy, as the grass levels are low. I hope they are in lamb.. not just fat…
We cut lots of the wood that once used to be a site caravan, into woodburner sized bits, and stashed. We definitely want to get pigs now, and have to clear up the area we plan to give them (and take down a dead henhouse, lift lots of old concrete, move a large pile of logs, fence it.. etc… but hey, it’s a start).
And whilst himself and our son were making a ‘mouse-hutch’ (son is expanding his animal hospital..), I picked some PSB for tea.
Making the most of too many eggs, and lots of PSB, I made a PSB bacon and cheese quiche. We usually have our purple sprouting broccoli barely cooked, still crunchy, but for this I steamed it until soft. While the PSB was steaming, and bacon cooking, I made shortcrust pastry and then put the bacon, cheese and PSB in the pastry case, poured over the egg mixture (3 eggs beaten with 1/2 pint of milk), and bunged it in the oven.
Tasty. And a hot quiche is very welcome on a winters day - and its certainly wintery out there now…
Thank you for the welcome!
Have you tried feeding the sheep your nettles after pulling them up and letting them wilt for a while? Our sheep eat nettles that way, but mostly the goats get them as they love them.
hmm, no I haven’t - interesting. I tried eating them myself.. horrid… so they are going on the compost heap. but as we are short of grass at the mo.. might be worth a try.
Hiya. I really enjoy your blog but unfortunately your feed doesn’t work. Thought I ought to let you know so that you can fix it
Hi Sharon
I don’t understand what the problem might be, as I just tested it, and the feeds are working. I spose you have the right address at your end? most strange…
