spinning improving.. slowly
5 March 2008 by colouritgreen
We have been washing and carding the black fleece we were given, and himself has been working his way though it, spinning. Definitely a lot less ‘novelty’ yarn coming out now, and noticeable increase in speed.
It turns out you can just buy a spinning wheel and get on with it.
I’m hoping to get enough to make a jumper.. we are getting mixed reports of what the fleece to jumper ratio might be.. so we keep going and see how much we have in the end. I wish I had weighed the fleece before washing, and then used that to make a comparison to how much actual yarn is obtained. Would be interesting to know what sort of percentage return you get. But I didn’t. maybe next time.
The problem is, as the evenings draw out, the vegetable patches beckon, and our list of things to achieve in an evening grows longer and longer.. there will be less time for spinning, and like my knitting, it might have to be set aside until autumn.
The other problem is I have far too many unfinished knitting projects already..
That is what I should have been doing! Maybe next year. I just don’t know where this winter has gone, it’s flown by so fast. I really do want to improve my spinning though. So far I have one ball of novelty wool, I’m thinking about knitting with it and then felting it - it’s not that good.
I know! winter.. I said.. is when we shall deal with the fleece… where did all the time go!
