hazelnuts and apples

some last ofs. Himself cracked the last of the hazelnuts we harvested last Autumn, roasted them, and made the last batch of hazelnut chocolate chip cookies. Shall miss them, but this is seasonal eating I guess. We didn’t do anything fancy to store them, they have just been lurking in a bowl with the nutcracker.

Busy weekend already, and only half way through.
Gloriously sunny day.. actually warm! Moved the ewes into the little field. They were so excited they jumped and gambolled like lambs.. I wish they wouldn’t - they are sposed to be pregnant… and the word ‘prolapse’ springs to mind. The grass is definitely starting to grow again, [...]

The recognised way to learn to spin is to join a group.. usually a guild even, and be shown by experienced spinners how to prepare the fleece and go on to spin, to have a go at different wheels, and then eventually make your choice.

Now one of our copper headed maran chickens has come into lay, giving us a lovely dark brown egg, which contrasts beautifully with the white egg we get daily from our buff leghorn.
