Himself has made a peg loom. It’s a simple affair.. made out of scrap wood (I am informed the base used to be part of our bed… I really hope he means a different bed to the one we sleep on now…) and some dowelling.
The pegs fit into holes in the base, and each peg has a little hole in it for thread. Next it’s just a matter of having a go and seeing how it works out.
We are dyeing fleece, from our own Devon Closewools, and once we have enough, hope to pegloom a rug for in front of the fire. Wool is ideal for a hearth rug, as it wont catch if there is a spark etc (not terribly likely with a woodburner), and should look good (well, we shall see!). A pegloom is a fast way of using up fleece, and I really want to have something made from our own wool, from our own sheep, grown in our own fields.
We opted to make a larger peg loom, as we can always just use part of it for smaller projects. This one is a 31 peg loom. Sposed to be a 32, but he miscounted… I’m sure it will be fine. In fact I’m sure now 31 pegs is the way to go…
Nice one!! If you need any help just ask……pegloomer extrordinaire here!!
thanks Val.
yet to try it out! we are dyeing enough fleece before giving it a go.. but we got a little distracted with the spinning!
