love is in the pond

Spotted the first frogspawn today. Been checking the pond every day as I go past, and there it is today, so that’s 8 days earlier than last year. I guess there will be a bit of fluctuation, but it will be interesting to see if this earlier trend keeps happening. According to the woodland trust, the trend is for earlier sightings, of frogspawn and other spring clues ( I saw my first red admiral butterfly last week too). Not a bad home ed resource, by the way.
Of course, once again the frogspawn is only in the overflow/bog garden bit, as we have goldfish (inherited from previous owner), in the main pond. I don’t feed the fish, and they are not breeding as fast as when they were pampered (previous owner!), gave some fish away to neighbours, and removed the fake heron, and the anti heron wall, but as yet, no heron has been for lunch.. so any frogspawn in the pond is mostly eaten.
It’s not that I don’t like goldfish.. just they are a bit hard on the rest of the pond population!
