I admire those that have bumped off their own turkey/goose/ chicken for Christmas dinner. We are a long way away from providing that much by ourselves, but then I realised we did do a reasonable amount.
The red cabbage and parsnips were ours, the bread that went into the bread sauce, and made the melba toast was homemade (and not a breadmaker in sight!), the Christmas pudding and mincepies were homemade (with homemade mincemeat ).
Presents were purchased, but mixed in with them were homemade socks, scarves, a knitted facecloth, a little cardi for a toddler, liqueurs and fudge, and sweet curried green tomato chutney.
The best thing is that it did not seem like work or hassle to provide what we did ourselves, just the natural course of events. hmmm maybe we should look at raising our own turkey next year……
